What is your turnaround time?
I start working on your quilt in the order received and my turnaround time is ever changing based on the time of year and current amount of work that I have. Please email me with questions. Once I finish work on your quilt, I will send you and invoice for payment and get your quilt on its way home. ***If for any reason your quilt is not quilt-able, I will refund your payment minus the return shipping charges.***
Why do you provide the batting?
I like to provide the batting to assure the best performance from my machine. Those of you who have been sewing for awhile know (and those who are new will learn) that our machines can be picky when it comes to the supplies we use - like thread and batting. I carry Quilter's Dream in 100% Cotton, 80%/20% Cotton/Poly Blend, and Bamboo (for an up-charge) and it is also made in the USA! Thank you for understanding.
What color thread should I choose for my quilt top?
This all depends on what look you are going for. If you want the quilting to pop, then choose a bright or highly contrasting color, but if you want your piecing to be the star and the quilting to be secondary, then choose a neutral color (gray, white, light pink, etc.) for your stitching. I recommend (if you don't have a lot of colors at home) taking your quilt top to a fabric store and laying different colors over multiple spots on your top to see what you like. Sometimes you just have to trust your gut reaction. If you are still conflicted, I am happy to pick for you...just let me know that you are okay with that when you order. I use Superior brand quilting threads...namely King Tut 100% cotton threads. I have nearly every color in their variegated threads and some solids. If you check out their site with the link in the longarm section and see a color you like, please reach out...I may already have it, and if I don't I can get it usually within two days.
95% off my customers have me choose the thread and/or the pattern. I am happy to do this as it allows me to be part of the creative process. If you go with this option, please let me know two things…if you want your stitching to blend in or show, and if there is any style pattern that you really don’t like (hearts, feathers, pearls, etc.).
Why do you include batting and return shipping in your price?
Before I started quilting my own tops, I found it very frustrating to figure out and calculate what the final cost of my quilt would be, and sometimes I wouldn't know until the quilt was done. Some quilters charge extra for everything from thread (per bobbin or spool) to needles to batting, etc. There is nothing wrong with those methods, but I found it confusing and prefer to have it all up front, cut and dry. So my price includes your basic batting, thread, and quilting. You can upgrade a few things by special request, but will know those add-on prices up front as well after we discuss and agree on a price. ***Note: No matter how small your project is, it take time to prepare and load, so there is a $50 minimum no matter the size of the piece.***
What if you measure my quilt top and it is different than my measurement?
Please measure carefully…lay your quilt top as flat and smooth as you can when measuring. If your top is more than 2 inches larger on every side than what you originally paid for, then I will email you before completing your quilt with pictures of the measurements that I took and charge the difference as necessary as long as we agree…I won’t do anything on your quilt without your stamp of approval on the change first. ***Sorry, but I can not quilt King size quilts at this time***
Why do you only offer edge to edge quilting?
I do not offer any custom work at this time because I only have so many hours in a day. Custom work is beautiful and great for show pieces or specialty quilts (like heirloom or t-shirt quilts), but takes an incredible amount of time - if you didn't read my about page, I am married with children (isn't that a TV show? LOL) and spare time is not in my vocabulary. Edge to edge is the most common for everyday or what I call loved-on quilts.
Can I drop off my quilt top instead of shipping?
Absolutely. I am located in Lorain, Ohio near the Amherst/Vermilion/Lorain border. If you are within what you consider driving distance and would like to drop off your quilt and save on shipping, I am happy to set up a time for you to stop by!
How do I ship my quilt to you?
I will leave it up to you to decide which carrier to use to send your quilt top and backing fabric to me. I do recommend getting a tracking number and insurance.
Send to:
Stephanie Feador
3949 Abigail Dr
Lorain, Ohio 44053
I will return your quilt via UPS and then send you a tracking number as soon as it has shipped. I find UPS to usually be the least expensive and most reliable shipper.
I do recommend that you place your quilt top and backing fabric in a plastic bag inside your box before sending. It can save your quilt in the instance that along the way your box gets caught in the rain or snow, or if the outside of the package were to be torn open in any way. You take care of the shipping to me and I will take care of the shipping back.
I'm sorry, but at this time I only ship within the United States.
Do you offer binding services?
I can bind for you if you like. I only machine bind and if this is something you would like me to finish for you, please email me for a quote on binding as this would be an additional charge. Keep in mind that it would also take a bit longer for your quilt to return to you. Please email me with the words 'binding quote' in the subject and we can discuss.
What if I have other questions?
If you still have questions, I am more than happy to answer them. Please fill out the form on the contact page of my website and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I look forward to collaborating with you!
